Another successful webinar was graced by our PSOPRS members last May 21, 2022. This was in collaboration with the International Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus Council (IPOSC) and the Philippine Society of Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus (PSPOS). Dr. Roland Tan moderated this session together with Dr. Jan Tjeerd De Faber. Four of our PSOPRS members who are also the elite Ocular Oncology group gave their insights on the future of retinoblastoma in the Philippines.
Dr. Gary Mercado, who was our very first ocular oncologist in the country gave a picture of the groundwork of retinoblastoma research in the Philippines. Dr. Honeylen Teo showed us the challenges in managing retinoblastoma as a low-income country as compared to high-income countries. And Dr. Andrei Martin updated us on the management trends of retinoblastoma and shared his journey on the very first intra-arterial chemotherapy in the Philippines. Dr. Barnoya of Guatemala shared with us their Retinoblastoma program in spite of their economic capacity.
This webinar was distinguished by Dr. Carol Shields herself as she shared updates on their latest research on Retinoblastoma. Dr. Jerry Shields showed up as well and gave everyone a boost of inspiration and joy.
