This year’s second Roundtable Discussion Quad Conference of PSOPRS featured four unique and interesting cases from training institutions in the Visayas region and Metro Manila.
This was held as an online webinar with the support of the Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology (PAO) last June 26, 2024 and showcased presentations from esteemed institutions namely: Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC), Cebu Doctors Hospital (CDH), University of Santo Tomas (UST), and University of the Philippines – Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH).
Dr. Mark Imperial, our PSOPRS Vice-President, delivered the opening remarks and introduced the presenters for the evening.
Dr. Erika Bicol, with adviser Dr. Jeremy Saquian, from WVMC presented the management of a rare case of Globe Luxation in a pediatric patient. Dr. Bryan Atienza shared valuable insights as reactor, reflecting on social issues and cultural differences when addressing pediatric trauma in Western countries.
The next interesting case, that of a Bilateral Congenital Dacryocystocele, was prepared by Dr. Jeremy Jacob, with adviser Dr. Jonathan Del Prado. Reactor Dr. Charisse Sanchez-Tanlapco commended the presenters for their excellent presentation and documentation and shared her experience.
Dr. Yvette Sioson, from UST, discussed a case of Eccrine Sweat Gland Carcinoma, highlighting its unusual presentation, their approach to diagnosis and surgical management. The adviser for the case was Dr. Noel Palmero. Dr. Jo Anne Hernandez-Tan and Dr. Alexander Gungab talked about the several key points of the case and the importance of early recognition of a suspected eyelid malignancy.
Dr. Yasser Alhassan, current Orbit and Oculoplastics fellow the University of the Philippines – Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH presented two cases of Eyelid Kissing Nevus. He discussed the challenges of excision and reconstruction as well adjuncts in scar management. Advisers for the case were Dr. Alex Tan and Dr. Armida Suller. Dr. Sandee Worak-Tan imparted her knowledge and pearls in scar management. Together with fellow members of PSOPRS, it was vibrant evening of discussion and learning.
