Last February 23-26, 2023, for the first time since the pandemic, the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology held a full face to face conference at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre next to the world famous Petronas Twin Towers. In this prestigious conference, the Philippine Society of Ophthalmic Plastics and Reconstructive surgery has made its significant contribution through excellent lectures by our very own members Dr Reynaldo Javate who shared his expertise in “Conjunctivodacryocystorhinostomy Using Stoploss Jones Tube”, Dr Mary Rose Pe Yan on discussed “Autologous Ear Cartilage Graft for Lagophthalmos Caused by Facial Nerve Palsy”, and Dr Yvette Santiago-Gatmaitan on “Blepharophimosis Syndrome: Stage Wise Management” and Dr Mariel Parulan on “ Managing and Prioritizing Trauma in a Multispecialty hospital” The conferences and sessions were well attended and received. It was a good opportunity to reconnect with other colleagues from the Asia-Pacific region.

With great pride, we also congratulate our very own Dr. Mae Roseny Singson for being awarded the Outstanding Service in Prevention of Blindness Award which is given to individuals whose contributions are instrumental in the prevention of blindness in the Asia-Pacific region. Dr. Mae has been active in doing voluntary oculoplastic work for the underserved communities through organized surgical missions and this has helped numerous Filipinos who need care and treatment for their eye conditions.

Last but definitely not the least, it is with great honor that we congratulate one of our most reputable ophthalmologist and oculoplastic surgeons in the country for being recognized as one of the Asia-Pacific Eye 100: 100 Most Influential Ophthalmologists 2022. This is one of the most prestigious awards in ophthalmology whereby the top 100 most influential and inspiring ophthalmologists are recognized for their significant contributions to ophthalmology in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond. The inspiring work of Dr. Javate and his significant contributions in ophthalmology, through research and novel techniques in oculoplastics, has put the Philippine brand in oculoplastics at the world class level.
