This year's midyear convention of the Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology couldn't be more fun as it was held in one of the more popular hometowns to many of our colleagues, not to mention, that of the president of the Philippines as well! Davao is one of the progressive cities of the south, known to be "The Durian Capital of the Philippines" or "The Crown Capital of Mindanao".
A successful surgical mission organised by the PSOPRS members, prepared 18 cases for orbit and oculoplastic procedures. It was a 2-day mission from April 23-24, 2019 done in Southern Philippines Medical Center. Cases included orbitotomies, exenteration, eyelid reconstruction, wide excision and lacrimal surgeries. We were privileged to be joined by the renowned dacryology expert, Dr. Mohammad Javed Ali.
Dr. Mohammad Javed Ali lectured on the "Clinical Evaluation of a Lacrimal System", while Dr. Gary Mercado shared the current classification, staging and treatment on Retinoblastoma with his lecture entitled "Retinoblastoma Revisited". Dr. Gary Bunagan lectured on "Ptosis: Principles of Assessment", followed by "Current Trends in the Management of Thyroid Eye Disease" by Dr. Marco Tumalad. And last but not the least was Dr. Trina Ranche who discussed the "Management of Lid Malpositions".
