On February 6, 2021, the APSOPRS, in collaboration with ESOPRS, held its 3rd challenging cases in Oculofacial Plastic Surgery through a virtual conference entitled “Hot Points in Hot Orbits”. Renowned orbit specialists in Asia and Europe shared their unique and challenging orbit cases, which were dissected by expert orbit panelists, with insightful inputs from invited experts in the fields of rheumatology, infectious disease, and radiology. The cases were divided into sections that spanned the specific causes of orbital inflammation, including thyroid eye disease, granulomatosis with polyangiitis, Erdheim-chester disease; non-specific causes of orbital inflammation including sclerosing idiopathic orbital inflammation; mimickers including myasthenia gravis and lymphoma; and orbital infection. Our beloved Dr. Mary Rose Pe-Yan, Vice President-elect of APSOPRS (2023-2024) and past President of PSOPRS (2007-2012), graced us with her expert opinion on two topics on orbital infections – a challenging case on orbital actinomyces, and another on orbital tuberculosis!

Dr. David H. Verity from Moorfields Eye Hospital gave an interesting presentation on Orbital Zoonosis: 18th Century COVID and the History of Vaccinations, a relevant topic paralleling our current worldwide situation. Imaging Pearls in Orbital Inflammation by Dr. Maartje M.L. de Win, from Amsterdam University Medical Centers, stimulated our interest in using orbital imaging to differentiate orbital inflammation from solid orbital lesions.
This 3-hour session has been a fun learning conference that was well-organized by Dr. Gangadhara Sundar; Dr. Farzad Pakdel; APSOPRS President Dr. Li Dongmei; and ESOPRS President Dr. Francesco Leoni. See you all on March 27, 2021, for the 4th installment of the APSOPRS series of conferences!
