Addressing the shortage of subspecialists in underserved regions, members of the Philippine Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (PSOPRS) returned to Iloilo at Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) for a surgical mission last August 15 – 16, 2025. Dr. Mark Anthony Imperial, PSOPRS President, and Dr. Lionel Francisco, PSOPRS Director of Administrative Activities, led the PSOPRS mission team. They worked closely with host ophthalmologists Dr. Emannuel Boniao and Dr. Karen Francia, WVMC Ophthalmology Department Head, as well as residents-in-training and staff. The mission included comprehensive pre-operative evaluation and planning, surgical treatment and ensured post-operative aftercare.
This activity marked PSOPRS’ meaningful return to the region after their first visit in 2017, reaffirming the society’s commitment to providing accessible oculoplastic care to communities in need.
