The Philippine Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (PSOPRS) together with the Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology (PAO) hosted the Lifelong Education Access Program (LEAP) on “Anophthalmic Socket: Complexities and Strategies” last October 8, 2025. This was a hybrid educational session held at the Ledesma Hall of Makati Medical Center and online via Zoom. The lectures focused on practical and current approaches to managing challenging anophthalmic socket cases.
Dr. Andrei Angbue-Te, PSOPRS Director for Operational Activities, moderated the activity. Dr. Christine Santos, PSOPRS Vice-President welcomed the speakers and attendees, and the session began with Dr. Joseph Yap’s lecture on Indications and Approaches in Eye Removal Surgery. Dr. Jonah Teope presented her lecture on Orbital Implants: Old vs New. Addressing challenges in contracted socket treatment, Dr. Mary Rose Pe-Yan gave insights on her expertise in her talk on Anophthalmic Socket Syndrome: How to Manage Complications. Interactive exchanges during the Q&A segment highlighted the types of implants used over the years and the clinical experiences of fellow PSOPRS members and the value of adaptable treatment strategies. PSOPRS President Dr. Mark Anthony Imperial expressed his appreciation to the speakers, attendees, and the organizing committee.
Residents, fellow ophthalmologists, and oculoplastic surgeons from various training institutions attended onsite and online – highlighting the growing interest in oculoplastics and the relevance of anophthalmic socket care in the practice of ophthalmology.
